Your point-of-entry firewall. These housings hold high-capacity cartridges to:
Capture sediment (sand, silt, rust) and protect UV, softener/descaler, heaters, and appliances.
Improve taste & odor when paired with carbon (reduces chlorine; some carbon types also reduce chloramine).
Enable UV by lowering turbidity before disinfection.
In the box: Housing + filter wrench.Cartridges sold separately — choose Sediment or Carbon (or Specialty) based on your water.
Small condos/townhomes (≤2 people, 1 bathroom, light use): 10" Standard or 10" Big Blue
Most single-family homes (3–5 people, 2–3 bathrooms): 20" Big Blue (single or Double)
Higher flow / multiple baths / well water: 20" Big Blue Double (B2) or Triplet (B3) for staged filtration
Prefer visual checks: choose a CLEAR model (10BC / 20BC) to see cartridge condition
Rule of thumb: Bigger = lower pressure drop & longer life. If you run UV, softener/descaler, or iron/tannin systems, go 20" Big Blue or a staged setup.
Sediment (1–50 μm) — PP melt-blown or pleated. Popular staging: 20 μm (coarse) → 5 μm (fine).
Carbon (Block / GAC) — taste & odor, chlorine; some blocks target chloramine.
Specialty (in multi-housings) — KDF/metal-reduction, scale inhibitor, lead-reducing carbon, etc.
When to replace: sooner if water is dirty/colored, taste/odor returns, or pressure drop increases 10–15 psi.
Cartridge size: 2.5" × 10"
Best for: Small spaces, POE protection for condos/suites, localized lines
Typical use: Single Sediment (5–20 μm) or Carbon
Typical replacement: Sediment 3–6 mo · Carbon 3–6 mo (smaller volume = shorter life)
Cartridge size: 4.5" × 10"
Why upgrade: Larger diameter → higher flow & longer life vs WF-10
Best for: Small homes / compact POE
Typical use: Single Sediment or Carbon
Typical replacement: Sediment 4–9 mo · Carbon 6–9 mo
Difference: Transparent sump for visual monitoring
Install note: Indoors, out of direct sunlight
Replacement: Same as WF-10B (visual checks make timing easier)
Cartridge size: 4.5" × 20"
Why it’s the sweet spot: Low pressure drop + long life for most homes
Best for: 3–5 people, 2–3 baths; UV/softener/descaler pre-filtration
Typical use: Single Sediment (5–10 μm) or single Carbon
Typical replacement: Sediment 6–12 mo · Carbon 9–12 mo
Difference: Same capacity as WF-20B with transparent sump
Replacement: Same as WF-20B
Why two stages: Staging boosts performance & cartridge life
Recommended configs:
Sediment 20 μm → Sediment 5 μm (well water / heavy particulates)
Sediment 5–10 μm → Carbon (municipal chlorine/odor; UV/softener pre-filter)
Typical replacement: Stage-1 Sediment 6–9 mo · Stage-2 Sediment 6–12 mo · Carbon 9–12 mo
Why three stages: Maximum protection, flow, and final polish
Sediment 20 μm → Sediment 5 μm → Carbon (municipal or clear well water)
Sediment → Carbon → Specialty (KDF/metal reduction, scale inhibitor, lead-reducing carbon)
Typical replacement: Coarse Sediment 6–9 mo · Fine Sediment 6–12 mo · Carbon/Specialty 9–12 mo
Before UV: lowers turbidity so UV can disinfect effectively
Before softener/descaler: keeps valves/media clean, extends life
Before carbon tanks / iron / tannin filters: catches grit that can foul primary units
Before undersink RO: reduces load on the RO membrane
Set-and-forget for most homes: WF-20B
Well water / staged protection: WF-20B2 or WF-20B3
Visual maintenance: WF-10BC / WF-20BC
Tight space / light use: WF-10 or WF-10B
Replacement intervals vary with water quality, usage, and cartridge brand. Replace sooner if taste/odor returns, flow drops, or ΔP rises 10–15 psi.
